Flight delay hits Chelsea plans

- KIERAN GILL

MAURIZIO SARRI’S plans ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League game at West Ham tomorrow were disrupted after the team’s flight home from Greece was cancelled. The players, staying at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Thessaloniki, were forced to stay an extra night following their Europa League win over PAOK on Thursday. Sarri wanted his squad home as soon as possible to prepare for their trip to the London Stadium but bad weather saw them stuck in Greece. The delay meant the team only landed back in London yesterday afternoon — less than 48 hours before they face Manuel Pellegrini’s men. Chelsea have secured six successive victories under Sarri, who replaced Antonio Conte in the summer. He put out a surprisingly strong team against PAOK because he believes it is the best way to have the players adapt to his philosophy. Alvaro Morata started but is set to be dropped against West Ham after missing several chances. Olivier Giroud will lead the line instead.
