Swiss voters back second burka ban
A SECOND Swiss canton is to introduce a burka ban after 67 per cent of voters backed moves to prohibit face-covering garments in public spaces.
The law was adopted by the regional parliament of St Gallen last year - but the issue was put to the people after opponents demanded a referendum.
The southern canton of Ticino introduced a burka ban two years ago.
A nationwide vote on the issue is expected next year after the populist right-wing Swiss People’s Party gathered the 100,000 signatures needed to put any subject to a referendum.
