JLR’s Brexit shutdown
BRITAIN’S biggest carmaker Jaguar Land Rover is considering shutting factories for several weeks next April to cope with the risk of disruption to supplies under a no-deal Brexit.
JLR has plants in Castle Bromwich, Birmingham; Halewood, Merseyside; and Solihull, West Midlands. The move could affect about 10,000 workers. Last week, BMW said it was bringing forward its annual summer shutdown at its Oxford factory to immediately after the March 29 EU departure date. JLR is considering a similar move, according to reports. Carmakers are concerned that parts could get stuck if new customs checks are introduced.
