Lacazette is a killer of a front man

- MARTIN KEOWN

ARSENE WENGER’S biggest legacy at Arsenal is the firepower at the top of the team that killed off Everton.

Wenger splashed out more than £100million last season to bring in Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and they proved their worth in this victory.

Lacazette is simply ruthless. He may not have had many chances yesterday but he made one of them count. There was no saving that ferocious strike to put Arsenal ahead.

The way he pounced on Aaron Ramsey’s pass, opened up his body and ripped the ball into the net was Lacazette at his best.

He is hungry for goals. He sat on the bench stewing on Thursday night while his team-mates filled their boots against Vorskla in the Europa League.

Lacazette desperately wanted a piece of the action and it made him even more determined to prove a point against Everton.

Arsenal look far more dangerous with the Frenchman through the middle and Aubameyang coming in from the left to join him.

It effectively means defenders have two centre forwards to deal with. It is difficult for them to know who to pick up. Momentum is everything with this Arsenal team. Once they are ahead, they are brimming with confidence and do not look like surrendering their lead.

Before Lacazette’s goal, Everton had chances but only Richarlison looked likely to score. They still lack a player who can regularly put the ball in the back of the net.

It was the same for Chelsea at West Ham. Maurizio Sarri is reliant on Eden Hazard and if he does not fire, the team look less likely to score.

There is still plenty of room for improvement in Unai Emery’s Arsenal side but with Aubameyang and Lacazette, they have a killer instinct.
