ACCRINGTON’S BARCA STYLE LEAVES ONE FAN TOOTHLESS
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
JOHN COLEMAN: The Accrington Stanley manager (left) said his side performed ‘ better than Barcelona could at this level’ after beating Wimbledon 2-1 at home. It was that good, one supporter apparently lost his false teeth during the celebrations. The club tweeted after the game: ‘Found: Has anybody lost their false teeth at Accrington Stanley this afternoon? They are being kept in the office!’ HERO OF THE WEEK STEVE EVANS (Peterborough boss): What a way for Peterborough to respond after being beaten by promotion rivals Portsmouth. The 4-2 win at Gillingham demonstrated a number of qualities. Peterborough could have crumbled when Gillingham went 2-1 up but they kept creating chances. Siriki Dembele equalised before Ivan Toney and Callum Cooke added the goals that sealed an impressive win. Posh are one point clear at the top and Evans now knows his players will fight to the end. GOAL OF THE WEEK
IVAN TONEY (for Peterborough v
Gillingham): The goal that put Peterborough ahead for the second time in the game. Dembele passed to Toney on the left of Gillingham’s penalty area and the 22-year- old striker hit the ball first time, curling it into the left of Tomas Holy’s goal. ZERO OF THE WEEK DEREK ADAMS (Plymouth manager): Another week and another defeat for Plymouth, this time at Charlton. Adams perhaps thought his luck had changed when midfielder Graham Carey scored to put Plymouth in front after nine minutes but they conceded three minutes later and unravelled after that. Karlan Ahearne- Grant scored an 88thminute winner for Charlton yet Adams found a way to be positive after a second consecutive defeat left Plymouth bottom and four points from safety. He said: ‘You can’t play the way that we are playing for it not to turn.’
STAT OF THE WEEK
Doncaster striker John Marquis has scored 46 goals in 99 games since joining from Millwall in 2016. He has been the top scorer for Doncaster in each of the last three seasons. His brace was enough to beat Bradford 2-1 on Saturday.
