LEAGUE TWO THIS WEEKEND
HERO OF THE WEEK
JASON SHACKELL (Lincoln): The defender’s free transfer move from Derby in the summer raised a few eyebrows. Shackell, 34, was brought in to provide experience in Lincoln’s quest for promotion. His contribution on Saturday at Sincil Bank was key against MK Dons. He scored a 94th-minute winner after Shay McCartan had cancelled out Rhys Healey’s opener for the visitors. The win moves Lincoln three points clear at the top of the table.
ZERO OF THE WEEK
MICHAEL ROSE ( Macclesfield): Morecambe v Macclesfield was already being touted as a relegation six-pointer. Macclesfield’s task was made harder when Michael Rose, Morecambe’s former captain, was sent off for a terrible challenge on Alex Kenyon after 38 minutes. Morecambe went on to win the game 2-1. The result leaves Macclesfield bottom and three points from safety.
GOAL OF THE WEEK
PIERCE SWEENEY (for Exeter v
Cheltenham): A goal of the season contender from the Exeter defender. Dean Moxey’s cross was headed out but only as far as Sweeney on the edge of the box. He struck a stunning volley first time with his right foot that soared into the back of Scott Flinders’ goal.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK
MARK COOPER, the Forest Green boss, believes his side should be challenging for automatic promotion after a 1-0 win over Crawley moved them into the play- off places. Cooper said: ‘I think we should be higher. If you look at the games, we’ve drawn when we should’ve won but we don’t want to be greedy, we are where we are.’
STAT OF THE WEEK
505: Grimsby’s 1- 0 defeat at Stevenage was their fifth straight loss in the league. Michael Jolley’s side are without a win since the second week and have gone 505 minutes without a league goal.
