Knife-waving OAP arrested after wife is found dead
A PENSIONER was being questioned by police on suspicion of murder yesterday after his wife was found stabbed to death at their home in Norfolk.
Michael Hubbard, 1, was seen brandishing a knife at his house while his wife Frances lay slumped in the doorway, according to neighbours.
The OAP, who is more than 6ft tall, is understood to have dementia and was cared for by 76-year-old Frances at their sheltered housing bungalow in the village of Brooke, near Norwich.
Armed police descended on the couple’s home at 10.30am on Sunday, and one eyewitness said retired factory worker Mr Hubbard had to be subdued with a Taser, although Norfolk Police refused to confirm this yesterday.
An air ambulance was scrambled but
Mrs Hubbard was declared dead at the scene. A post-mortem examination is due to take place today.
Neighbour Jason Saunders, 47, said: ‘I saw him holding a great big kitchen knife and the police shouted at him to put the knife down six or ten times.
‘As I went to drive off I heard a big pop sound and a load of crashing noises. He must have been Tasered.’
Another neighbour, Glen Elwin, 6 , said: ‘She was a lovely lady. I couldn’t have met a nicer woman.’
Mrs Hubbard was described as ‘active’ and was a regular at the local community centre and pub quizzes.
The couple, who have two children, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in March this year. Friends said Mrs Hubbard was devoted to her husband, but had told neighbours his dementia was getting worse.
