Drinking coffee may keep type 2 diabetes at bay
COFFEE may help prevent diabetes, according to research from Iran published in the journal Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases.
A six-year study involving 4,000 adults found a lower incidence of pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes in coffee drinkers compared with those who never drank it. It is thought the caffeine in coffee has a beneficial effect on how the body processes insulin, the hormone that mops up sugar from the blood.
But researchers say other coffee components, such as chlorogenic acid and trigonelline, may play a role.
