Major gas find off the Scottish coast
TOTAL has announced a major gas discovery off the scottish coast.
The discovery on the Glendronach prospect on the west of shetland has the potential to deliver about 1 trillion cubic feet of recoverable resources, the French energy group said.
arnaud breuillac, Total’s president of exploration and production, said: ‘Glendronach is a significant discovery which gives us access to additional gas resources in one of our core areas and validates our exploration strategy.’
Total drilled a 14,146 ft well during exploration, with preliminary tests confirming ‘good reservoir quality, permeability and well-production deliverability’. The group has a 60pc stake in Glendronach, with Ineos and sse holding 20pc each.
The company’s production in the UK comes mainly from fields located offshore in three major zones – the alwyn/Dunbar area in the northern north sea, the elgin/Franklin area in the Central north sea and the Laggan-Tormore hub in the West of shetland area.
