Beware costly travel cover catch

- f.parker@dailymail.co.uk

HOLIDAYMAKERS have been warned they are unlikely to be covered by their travel insurance for trips booked more than a year in advance.

Most travel insurers will not pay out if such trips are cancelled, even if due to ill health, according to comparison website GoCompare.

Experts say this policy should be made clear by cruise companies and travel agents which are already taking bookings for 2020. A spokesman for the Association of British Insurers says: ‘It is normal for insurers to sell travel policies that cover a 12-month period. If you have booked a holiday beyond this timeframe, we would recommend speaking to a specialist insurer, via a broker, to ensure you are protected.’
