Daimler’s new boss

MERCEDES owner Daimler has named 49year- old insider Ola Kallenius as its next chief executive.

Boss Dieter Zetsche, 65, is set to become a back- seat driver as chairman of the supervisory board from 2021.

Kaellenius is from Sweden, marking the first time the business will be headed by a nonGerman. The industry is battling tech firms in the race to put selfdriving cars on the road, as well as roll out electric cars.

Zetsche said: ‘At Daimler, Ola has earned not only my respect but also the recognition of his colleagues in very diverse areas.’
