Explosive Kynren can write his own history

- By SAM TURNER

TAKING his name from an epic show charting Britain through the ages, KYNREN (Newmarket, 3.40) can etch himself in history today by lifting the prestigious bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap.

The £35million Kynren show in County Durham features a vast cast and chronicles moments from history and myth courtesy of live battles, pyrotechnics and contributions from 30 horses.

And while the equine version hasn’t produced many fireworks so far, Kynren could light up the Rowley Mile with today’s test perfect for a horse which has the pace to win over a mile and the stamina to be placed in one of the season’s hottest handicaps over 10 furlongs.

Trainer David Barron looks to have conditioned his gelding beautifully, blending a light campaign with a season which should serve to hone the four-year-old’s ability to handle big fields and a strong pace.

Narrowly beaten at York last month over a mile, Kynren had previously taken third in a strong renewal of the John Smith’s Cup, where the extended mile-and-aquarter appeared to stretch his stamina reserves.

However, Thundering Blue, runner-up that day, was then third in the Juddmonte International, while fourth-home Titus bolted up in a warm handicap. A strongly run nine furlongs on a stiff track look optimum conditions for Kynren and, although he would prefer softer ground, he has proved this summer that a sound surface holds no great concerns.

Also, Kenya and Sands Chorus should ensure there is a decent pace for those drawn centrally.
