Trump: Kim Jong-un and I fell in love
DONALD Trump has said that he and Kim Jong-un have fallen ‘in love’ after trading a series of ‘beautiful letters’.
The US President made the remarks at a rally in West Virginia on Saturday night, telling the crowd: ‘He wrote me beautiful letters ... We fell in love.’
He said that the North Korean leader is interested in a second meeting, and hailed their June summit in Singapore as a big step towards denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.
However, negotiations have stalled. North Korea’s top diplomat Ri Yong-ho told world leaders at the UN General assembly on Saturday that the country does not see a ‘corresponding response’ to North Korea’s early disarmament moves. Instead, the US is continuing sanctions to maintain pressure, he said.
But Mr Trump took a much more optimistic view in his speech, and said: ‘We were going to war with North Korea. Millions of people would have been killed. Now we have this great relationship.’
He said his efforts have brought positive results – ending rocket tests, helping to free hostages and getting the remains of american servicemen returned home.
Mr Trump was previously condemned for sending threats and insults to Mr Kim over Twitter, referring to the dictator as ‘little rocket man’ and threatening to unleash ‘fire and fury’ on his rogue state.
