Freshers given advice on being a sex worker
A STUDENT union was accused yesterday of encouraging prostitution after hosting a Freshers’ Fair with a stand giving tips on how to be a sex worker.
It provided advice about escorting and handed out leaflets, free condoms and lubricant to new students.
First-years at Brighton University were also invited to play on a ‘wheel of sexual wellbeing’ with prizes including underwear on the stand run by the Sex Workers’ Outreach Project Sussex.
Chris McGovern, chairman of the Campaign for Real Education, said: ‘This is appalling and brainless. It gives an air of respectability to prostitution.’ He added that young students could be ‘exploited sexually’ and put in physical danger.
Feminist campaigner and writer Julie Bindel said: ‘This is beyond disgraceful.’
University bosses are investigating last week’s event run by its students’ union.
