EAST AFRICA’S NATURAL WONDERLAND

Think of Africa, and your mind’s eye is probably conjuring up images of Kenya .From the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kenya, across endless savannah where giraffe nibble on lonely acacia trees, down into the Rift Valley with its dramatic escarpments, and onwards east to the sun-bleached beaches of the Indian Ocean – Kenya exudes a timeless romance. One big reason why Kenya is a modern traveller’s dream, is its varied geography.

The country is cut from north to south by the Great Rift Valley, the crack in the Earth’s surface from Jordan to Mozambique, formed millions of years ago. Leaving behind a trail of lakes, including Lake Naivasha, home to hundreds of species of birds and herds of hippos, its geographical slice has also created the perfect plain for monumental mountain ranges, and swathes of colourful flowers.

COSMOPOLITAN CAPITAL

Beyond its natural wonders, Kenya also has its very own concrete jungle in the shape of the sprawling capital city of Nairobi. Each individual facet of Nairobi helps form its unique and charismatic identity, as the past and present collide to create one of the most diverse cities in the whole of Africa. Although it thrives with modernity, Nairobi still retains some colonial legacy and visitors can learn about the country’s history at the National Museum, admire its artistic heritage at the Go-Down Arts Centre, and watch the process of traditional crafts on a free tour of the Kazuri Beads and Pottery Centre.

ROYAL TREETOPS

Located on the path of an ancient elephant migratory route between the Aberdare Ranges and Mount Kenya National Park, Treetops Lodge is the perfect place to view game.

Treetops is not only famous for its prime position in the heart of nature, but it is the very place in 1952 where a princess climbed a ladder one evening for a night in a tree house, to descend the next morning as Queen Elizabeth II, following the unexpected death of her father, King George VI. Winners of this incredible prize will discover the history, spectacular scenery and amazing wildlife on an overnight stay at Treetops.

In this unique place you can experience the magical sight of animals coming to the floodlit waterhole every night and will have the privilege of watching them from the special viewing platform.

MEET THE MAASAI

Explore sensational landscapes on a safari to the Maasai Mara and experience the culture of its people. A day with the Maasai is truly unforgettable, presenting an opportunity to witness a vibrant performance of the aduma – a traditional jumping dance performed by warriors.

One of the most striking sights you can see in Africa is the tall, elegant Maasai, adorned with handmade jewellery and their signature red shuka blankets billowing in the breeze, as they walk across the plains of the beautiful savannah. Taking the opportunity to walk side by side with a Maasai warrior, is undoubtedly the best way to learn about the age-old customs that have been proudly preserved in their traditional villages.
