GPs face £3,000 flight home

-

TWO GPs face having to plunder their wedding savings to return home from Washington DC.

Eduardo di Cuffa and his fiancee Victoria Lee were last night stranded in the US capital and face paying up to £3,000 for direct flights back to London.

The pair had been due to return on Saturday, but were horrified to learn their flights to Stansted had been cancelled after the airline went bust.

Dr di Cuffa, who works at a practice in north London, said: ‘It has been awful because we’ve had no communication from anyone. We found out from our family in Britain and when we tried to find out more there was no information.’

The couple had travelled out to celebrate Dr di Cuffa’s 33rd birthday with his sister, who lives in Washington.

‘We are getting married next year and this is going to be a huge dent in our finances’, he added.

The GP also feared a knock-on effect on patients. He said: ‘To be honest, this is exactly not what I needed given the current state of the NHS at the moment.’
