Now the McGregors go to war over child maintenance
EWAN McGregor’s very public break-up from his wife reached a new low yesterday in a legal row over how much he should pay in maintenance.
McGregor, 47, believes he is paying more than necessary to support Eve Mavrakis, 52, and their children – but she is said to want more.
Court papers revealed that the couple – who were married for 22 years before announcing their separation last year – filed a joint document in their divorce case acknowledging that he was making regular payments, despite not being ordered to by a court.
The Trainspotting star, who lives in the US, has four children with his estranged wife; Clara, 22, Jamyan, 16, Esther, 16 and Anouk, seven. He pays to support Miss Mavrakis and their three youngest children.
He filed for divorce in January, with US court documents stating he was ‘voluntarily con-
tributing to the living expenses’ of Eve and their children.
However, it is claimed that he has now stated that his payments ‘exceed his obligations’, while his ex-wife believes she should get more – with the documents saying that the ‘funds she receives for her benefit or for the benefit of their children were less than her support payments should have been’.
Los Angeles Superior Court is being asked to make a decision on the level of maintenance.
McGregor, who is said to be worth £35million, is dating his Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead, 33. They went public with their affair in November, but sparked controversy when they were seen kissing in a restaurant before he announced the separation from his wife.
Shortly after the split, Clara accused Miss Winstead of tearing her family apart, branding her a ‘piece of trash’ on Instagram. She later expressed regret for the post.
