Leistner lifts McClaren

- HARRY SLAVIN at the Madejski Stadium

Steve MccLAreN insisted his QPr side are yet to reach their full potential after a slender victory over reading. captain toni Leistner returned from injury to fire home the only goal after a scramble in the area on 64 minutes. It lifted the pressure on his manager and helped his side climb to 17th in the table — but only after the visitors had passed up a number of gilt-edged opportunities. ‘this team, at the moment, I don’t think is anywhere near its potential,’ he said. ‘But potential is nothing and we have to demonstrate that. At the moment we have to be resilient and we have to be hard to beat and we’ve got to keep creating.’ Mcclaren saw his side almost surrender all three points after Yakou Meite, who started after Jon Dadi Bodvarsson pulled up injured in the warm-up, had struck a post. Opposite number Paul clement believed referee Andy Davies was just as culpable as his players for reading’s defeat, after seeing three penalty appeals turned down. ‘I thought he made a lot of mistakes,’ said the home manager.
