Roberts puts Bielsa’s boys back on track

Leeds end long wait for away win

MArceLO Bielsa insisted there is much more to come from tyler roberts after the teenage striker added to his growing reputation by firing Leeds back to the top of the championship.

Bielsa’s Premier League hopefuls answered their critics in perfect fashion after doubts were expressed about whether they could last the pace after just one win in their last five games.

roberts eased their promotion jitters with a clinical 51st-minute strike to leave the Argentine full of praise for the 19-year-old prospect, who continues to shine as he stands in for injured duo Kemar roofe and Patrick Bamford.

‘roberts is a serious talent,’ the Leeds manager said after his side had returned to the summit on goal difference.

‘He’s a young player but he’s not overawed by playing at this level and he comes up with the answers for us.’

After a first win in three games, Bielsa added: ‘It was harder in the final 10 minutes, but up until then we controlled things.

‘When you’ve just got the one goal, there’s always a chance of conceding. We weren’t efficient in taking our chances. It’s something we’ve talked about because when you don’t score more, you end the game with a different feeling.’

Bielsa’s men were rarely troubled by the toothless tigers as they controlled a lacklustre game from start to finish.

they should have been out of sight at the interval, with ezgjan Alioski firing a shot across the face of goal after good work from Kalvin Phillips. Luke Ayling sent a header narrowly off target and Barry Douglas failed to convert an Alioski cross. those misses were forgotten when roberts took a pass from Mat Klich on the edge of the area, and despite the attentions of Kevin Stewart, the youngster found the bottom corner with a powerful drive from 20 yards.

Hull barely created a chance until substitutes Fraizer campbell and Nouha Dicko saw late efforts blocked and their side threatened an undeserved equaliser.

they sit just above the relegation zone after one win in their last eight games and manager Nigel Adkins said: ‘Leeds are one of the best teams I’ve seen in the championship for a very long time.

‘there will be plenty of times when they take other sides to the cleaners this season. Despite the result, there were plenty of positives for us.’
