Dortmund starlet Sancho’s U21 call

- By DOMINIC KING

JADON SANCHO is in line for his first England Under 21 call-up. The Borussia Dortmund forward is one of a group of younger players, including Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Derby’s Mason Mount, for whom bright futures are expected. Aidy Boothroyd, the Under 21s manager considered selecting the 18-year-old for last month’s fixtures against Holland and Latvia but Sancho had only played 17 minutes of football when the squads were unveiled. Circumstances have changed over the last month, however, and Sancho has assisted five goals and netted once in six appearances from the bench for Dortmund. Now Boothroyd is likely to turn to Sancho when he names his squad on Thursday for the Euro 2019 qualifiers against Andorra and Scotland. Sancho, who was part of the England Under 17 World Cupwinning squad, left City for Dortmund last year to secure regular football and his progress has been encouraging. Sancho signed a four-year deal yesterday worth around £35,000 a week with the German club.
