Boris-backing MP calls for Theresa to quit

-

A TORY MP attempted to humiliate Theresa May before her speech yesterday by calling for her to quit.

James Duddridge, who was sacked as a minister by Mrs May, said she was ‘incapable’ of delivering Brexit. He has backed Boris Johnson to take over.

Calling for a no-confidence vote in a letter to the backbench 1922 Committee, Mr Duddridge, who was a junior foreign office minister under David Cameron, said: ‘I have not met a single MP who thinks she will lead us into another election.’

The Rochford and Southend East MP said he was submitting his letter ‘with heavy heart’ and ‘blind loyalty is not the way forward any more’. But the cynical timing of the letter sparked fury among his fellow MPs.

Mr Duddridge has been a prominent critic of the Mrs May over Brexit and praised Mr Johnson’s speech urging her to ‘chuck Chequers’. ‘Turns out there is a plan. That plan is Boris,’ he said.

Plotters seeking to overturn Mrs May’s leadership claim more than 30 MPs have put in letters in an attempt to spark a no confidence vote.
