JENNIFER LAWRENCE (pictured) comes out fighting as hardworking mum Joy Mangano, who invented a ‘magic’ mop and took the world of TV shopping by storm in the Nineties. This comedy drama is based on a true story, but feels curiously unreal — a rags-to-riches tale with a distinctly offbeat tone.

HORRIFIC new-to-Freeview U.S. thriller series that presents vampirism as a virus, the spread of which is orchestrated by an evil corporation. DOWNBEAT SITCOM Sick Of It, 10pm, Sky One
KARL PILKINGTON’S comedy is steadily finding deeper ground. In episode three, everyone finds it completely mad that Karl wants to go on holiday by himself, which sounds like a perfectly reasonable idea. He isn’t totally on his own, though — his mouthy inner self
is a near-constant companion.

CHERRY HEALEY is in Brazil, mixing with the contenders of ‘Miss BumBum’ and trying to figure out why they feel the need to compete in such a contest. She learns that views on plastic surgery are quite different in Brazil, and there is a drive to offer it to people on lower incomes.
