SFO probe to be reviewed

-

THE Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is set to bring in an independent judge to review parts of its longrunning corruption probe into miner ENRC.

It comes after ENRC raised concerns about wrongdoing in the investigation including ‘themes of collusion and cover-up’.

ENRC says a key notebook belonging to a former SFO investigator Keith McCarthy covering a period in 2011 when claims against it were coming to light, is missing from SFO archives and that McCarthy felt there was no basis for action against it.

It marks the latest setback for the probe into ENRC over allegations of fraud, bribery and corruption around mines in the Democratic Republic of Congo started in 2013. ENRC denies the allegations and no corruption charges have been made. The SFO declined to comment.
