Red Len: Dark forces want to keep Corbyn out of No10

- By Daniel Martin Policy Editor

LEN McCluskey has claimed there could be ‘dark forces at play’ working to undermine Jeremy Corbyn.

The general secretary of the Unite union said he would not be surprised if the ‘deep state’ was plotting to stop the Labour leader from ever becoming prime minister.

His comments echo those of Andrew Murray, one of Mr Corbyn’s advisers, who suggested last month that MI5 was conspiring to prevent him from entering No 10. The former Communist said he detected the manoeuvrings of ‘the deep state’ working to stop Labour winning power.

Asked about the claim in an interview with House – Parliament’s weekly magazine – Mr McCluskey said: ‘There is this view, and my god we’ve lived through it all our lives, that the security forces play an unhealthy role in the democratic processes that exist in our nation, both in trade unions and indeed in our political life.

‘Would I be surprised if there were dark forces at play? No. But is it something I particularly worry about? Not at the moment – I haven’t got time.

‘I’m more concerned about what’s happening in the real world. It’s not something that occupies my mind.’
