Trump judge on course for job
DONALD Trump’s nominee for the US Supreme Court appeared on course for confirmation after two key senators backed an FBI investigation that effectively cleared him over sex claims.
Republicans Susan Collins and Jeff Flake raised no objections to the completed inquiry into alleged sexual assault by Brett Kavanaugh, which he denies. Miss Collins said the FBI probe ‘appears to be very thorough’ while Mr Flake said it turned up ‘no additional corroborating information’.
The Republicans have a narrow 51-49 lead in the senate, meaning the senators had the power to doom his nomination if they rebelled against their party. Their decision to back the probe paves the way for a formal vote to confirm Mr Kavanaugh in the Senate tomorrow.
