one of the most fiercely protected edicts of english football is that no live matches are broadcast between 2.45pm and 5.15pm on a Saturday during the season. this is to prevent a televised game affecting attendances. Yet, last week, September 29, eleven Sports broke that rule by showing Barcelona’s La Liga match against Athletic Bilbao. if they had hoped the resulting furore would give them some much-needed publicity, think again. the event was barely reported and neither the Football Association, Premier League or Football League have been moved to comment. the six people who subscribe to eleven Sports for La Liga were probably not planning to attend a match that day anyway.
