THE £450 price tag is enough to make your hair stand on end.

But the latest offering from Sir James Dyson uses ground-breaking technology to curl it instead – with warm air alone.

The Dyson Airwrap hair tongs, launched today, follow the British inventor’s re-imagining of the vacuum cleaner, desk fan, hand dryer and hairdryer.

They use a high-speed jet of air which flows around the surface of the tong. The company claims this achieves a better curling effect and also reduces the risk of heat damage to the hair of more conventional tongs, which work in the making and went through 642 prototypes. It is available online and at Dyson stores today priced from £399.99 to £449.99.

Sir James said: ‘We have been obsessively manipulating airflow for more than 25 years. It is one of our core areas of expertise.

‘We have engineered a unique styling tool which prevents extreme heat damage when styling. I’m immensely proud of what our engineers have achieved.’

Dyson’s bagless vacuum cleaner was launched in 1993 and has sold millions. It was followed by the AirBlade hand dryer, the Air Multiplier fan and the Supersonic hairdryer.
