Wharf gives its backing to Brexit Britain

-

PLANS have been unveiled for a major development at London’s Canary Wharf that could house 20,000 jobs in the technology and creative industries.

In a major vote of confidence in the UK before Brexit, Canary Wharf Group said its multi-billion pound scheme would redevelop 23 acres of land into offices, shops, housing and public spaces.

Around 2m sq ft of office space will be dedicated to fast-growing businesses, with 3,600 homes and a primary school also included.

The development, to be named Wood Wharf, is expected to be built by 2023. The number of technology jobs bosses expect to be based there would outstrip the number based in Cambridge.

Ennismore, the owner of The Office Group, has been confirmed as one of the first tenants.

Sir George Iacobescu, chairman and chief executive officer of Canary Wharf Group, said his firm had ‘reinvented London’s business landscape once, and with Wood Wharf we intend to do so again for the era of fast growth tech and creative businesses’.

‘This will be a major investment into London’s infrastructure and a home for the people shaping the future of this great City.’
