O’NEILL SLAMS SHEARER OVER CHRISTIE CRITICISM

MARTIN O’NEILL has hit back at Alan Shearer over criticism of Ireland defender Cyrus Christie. Shearer targeted the Fulham wing-back’s defending in his analysis of their 5-1 loss to Arsenal on Match of the Day. O’Neill said: ‘The first thing I thought of when Shearer was having a go is, “He hasn’t thought this out”. Maybe that’s why he only managed eight games (himself), that might be something to do with it.’
