I SMILED at Tony Horricks’s tale about his National service days at RAF Hendon and his association with Chelsea footballers (Peterborough). In 1956, I was at the metropolitan Police detective Training school, Hendon, and played in a match against the RAF lads, which we lost 8-1. Coming off the pitch, I remarked to a met player about how good one of the RAF lads was. ‘so he should be,’ he said. ‘That’s Peter Brabrook of Chelsea.’ The winger was capped three times for england.
