Our daily (old) bread

-

IT DIDN’T surprise me to discover Pret a manger is selling year- old baguettes as fresh (mail).

The sandwich chain is part of a huge foreign multinational fixated on the bottom line. Greggs sells food at half the price of Pret, including the best sausage rolls I have tasted after years of enduring the production-line variety.

The fact Greggs is mainly British and family owned is a bonus.

JOHN EVANS, Wokingham, BERKS PRET a manger’s baguettes made in France? Quelle surprise! LAURENCE STEVENS,

Wilmslow, Cheshire. Why make a big deal out of Pret using part-baked, imported bread? I’ve worked in supermarket bakeries and there is no one kneading dough. The staff just know the defrost programme to press on the ovens.

Name supplied, Brighton. Will the managing director of French company Bridor, which makes the baguettes for Pret, lobby President macron for a good Brexit deal rather than see a major slice of his business go down the pan?

DAVID EDWARDS, Leighton Buzzard, Beds.
