Bullingdon Club ban for Tories at Oxford
STUDENTS at Oxford have been banned from holding office in the University Conservative Association if they join the Bullingdon Club.
The OUCA has added the notorious drinking society – whose former members include Boris Johnson and David Cameron – to its list of proscribed organisations.
The all-male Bullingdon Club, which was founded in 1780, was told its ‘values and activities have no place’ in the Tory party.
Its often wealthy and privileged members have been accused of wrecking restaurants during booze-fuelled dinners and initiating newcomers by forcing them to set fire to a £50 note in front of a beggar.
OUCA president Ben Etty said it was hoped the ban would show that ‘we are moving towards a more open, welcoming, and tolerant environment for all’.
