WHATBOOK..?
SIMON REEVE
. ..are you reading now?
WILDING by Isabella Tree. At a time when we’re hammering the environment, this is a hopeful book about how the natural world can be reborn if we put the right creatures on our land, step back and let it flourish.
...would you take to a desert island?
THE Bolds by Julian Clary — which I’m reading with my seven-year-old son, Jake — about hyenas living in suburbia. It has us both laughing out loud. It would remind me of home.
. ..gave you the reading bug?
SCHINDLER’S Ark by Thomas Keneally, which I read at school. It really opened my eyes to the evils humans can perpetrate and the power of an individual to make a difference.
. ..left you cold?
IN PATAGONIA by Bruce Chatwin. I just found it too pretentious. Too much travel writing is about the emotional journey of the author.
But who am I to talk when I’ve just published my autobiography! Simon Reeve’S Step By Step: The Life in my Journeys is out now (Hodder £20).
