Javid’s brother left note saying he ‘wouldn’t last long’ before hotel suicide

- By Christian Gysin by doctors. Coroner’s officer John Halloran said Mr Javid’s partner ‘found two identical letters which... said, “Carry on and enjoy life,” and added that with the stomach pain he was suffering from he would not last much longer.’ Toxic

HOME Secretary Sajid Javid’s eldest brother killed himself when he drowned in a hotel shower while five times the drink-drive limit, a coroner ruled yesterday.

Tariq Javid, 52, had been suffering from anxiety and stress in the weeks before he took his own life at a country house hotel just a few miles from his home, an inquest heard.

Penelope Schofield, the senior coroner for West Sussex, recorded a conclusion of suicide after hearing he had cuts on his neck and had taken prescription drugs. The inquest was not attended by any of his family but the coroner said they were aware of the hearing and would be given a summary. Tariq and Sajid also have three other brothers – Khalid, Basit and Atif.

Tariq Javid, a supermarket chain boss, left his home in Horsham, West Sussex, while his partner of 15 years Sylvia went shopping on July 29 this year, the hearing in Crawley was told.

When she returned she found he had left two identical letters saying he would ‘not last long’ due to stomach problems.

Mr Javid went to the nearby luxury South Lodge Hotel in Horsham and binged on alcohol in his room as well as at the hotel bar. His partner tried to call him at the hotel after finding the notes stating he had gone there, but there was no answer.

She then went to the hotel and a manager gained entry to the room, where Mr Javid was found slumped face-down in the shower.

He had several injuries to his neck, and a post-mortem examination found significant levels of a prescription drug in his system. He was also suffering from serious heart disease.

In the month prior to his death, he had been signed off from work due to stress and anxiety.

He was also suffering from stomach problems that were being investigated
