FIVE-STAR MOVIE Imitation Of Life, 11am, Film4 DOUGLAS SIRK’SSIRK’Smelodrama­melodrama follows the rise of an ambitious actress (Lana Turner). But it is the parallel story of her AfricanAme­rican friend, Annie (Juanita Moore), and Annie’s daughter (Susan Kohner, above with Moore) that makes this Sirk’s most complex, resonant and triumphant film. FOOTBALL Tottenham Hotspur v Manchester City, 7pm, Sky Premier League & Main Event WELL it’s all to play for as the Premier League steps up a gear. Crystal Palace’s draw with Arsenal yesterday could prove fateful for the Gunners — and The Eagles. It also affects Spurs and City as they go head-to-head tonight. SUPERHERO EVOLVES Supergirl, 8pm, Pick THE Freeview premiere for episode one of a cheerful superhero show with some serious money behind it. Kara Danvers is Superman’s cousin, living as a human on Earth — denying her powers, being belittled by her boss (Calista Flockhart) — in a show that follows her evolution as a superhero! ESPIONAGE DRAMA Condor, 9pm, Universal TV THIS new U.S. drama is inspired by Six Days Of The Condor, and sets out an electrifyi­ng store in this opening double bill. Max Irons (pictured) is the analyst pulled into events way, way beyond his skill set after an algorithm he wrote is used by the CIA. What follows is many things — exciting, sad, funny — but it rarely relaxes its grip on the viewer. ORIGINAL WHODUNIT Frankie Drake Mysteries, 9pm, Drama BURSTING with jazz, snazzy fashion and a guest appearance from Laurence Fox, this new-toFreeview, Twenties-ies-set Canadian mystery series — about an allfemale detective agency led by Frankie Drake (pictured) — is a lot of fun. Fans of Murdoch Mysteries will also get a nice surprise! ENDURING DRAMA Criminal Minds, 9pm, Sky Witness THE first of the new, 14th season also happens to be the 300th episode, and is marked by the dramatic abduction of Reid and Garcia. These two are the only characters left from the show’s original line-up, and their sudden absence leaves the team in turmoil. MODERN TRAGEDY Selling Children, 10pm, BBC4 ‘IN INDIA, every hour, eight children are trafficked.’ This is just one of the horrifying assertions in a new documentar­y that explores stories of children being sold into slavery, and for far less money than a buffalo. Some of the testimony director Pankaj Johar hears from the children is heartbreak­ing.
