Ten changes for cup clash at West Ham

- By ADAM CRAFTON

Mauricio Pochettino insists he will not jeopardise his players’ welfare at the expense of silverware as the tottenham manager suggested he may make 10 changes for tonight’s carabao cup tie at West ham.

tottenham are under pressure to win a first trophy of the Pochettino era and the club’s first since the League cup under Juande ramos in 2008.

however, their derby at West ham comes only 48 hours after Monday night’s defeat against Manchester city at Wembley on a dreadful pitch scarred by the weekend’s nFL action.

Pochettino suggested that only eric Dier — who was substituted around the hour mark — will start the match from the team who lost against city.

the Spurs manager said: ‘i can put the same players with a risk that they become injured, it’s so difficult. it’s less than 48 hours to compete again having had the circumstance of playing on a pitch that is so difficult. it was a tough and very competitive game. We will see which players can repeat, some can be on the bench and some need to rest.

‘it is going to be difficult to repeat some players, maybe Dier who played 65 minutes, maybe, but i don’t believe too many players will be ready to play.’

harry Winks branded the club’s run of fixtures ‘ridiculous’. the england midfielder said: ‘We’ve got three games in five days which is ridiculous in terms of the schedule.

‘We’ll have to deal with it and luckily we’ve got a squad big enough to be able to deal with this. We’ve got to dig in, we have got players that can play two games in two days because we’re a fit squad and a fit bunch of players.’

christian eriksen, who was a late substitute against city, will be available. Dele alli will also play at least an hour as he returns from injury.

tottenham confirmed yesterday that alli has signed a new contract that ties him to the club until 2024. the england international will earn a guaranteed £100,000 a week rising to £150,000 with add-ons.

WEST HAM are bolstering security measures for tonight’s Carabao Cup tie against Tottenham. Ticket holders are being asked to arrive at the London Stadium at least an hour before kick off and advised not to bring bags unless absolutely necessary.
