Grooming gang: Four more jailed

- By Chris Brooke

FOUR more members of Brit- ain’s biggest Asian grooming gang were jailed yesterday, bringing the total sentences imposed on 20 men to 257 years.

Niaz Ahmed, 54, Mohammed Imran Ibrar, 34, Mohammed Akram, 33, and Asif Bashir, 33, wrecked the lives of three teenage girls in a cycle of ‘depravity and exploitation’.

The mother of one young victim became so desperate for help that she wrote to the Prime Minister, Leeds Crown Court heard.

The girls were plied with drink and drugs, rendered senseless and passed around men of Pakistani heritage to be violated, beaten and sexually abused over many years.

One was beaten and left alone on a remote moor after refusing to perform a sex act on Ibrar, while Akram abandoned two of the girls injured in his car after crashing into a mosque wall, the court heard. Judge Simon Phillips QC told the four: ‘The way that you treated these girls defies understanding, this abuse was vile and wicked.’

He added that it was ‘likely that all of these girls will never recover’, with one saying she felt as though her life was at risk every time she left the house.

A total of 15 girls were sexually abused by the 20- strong gang in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, between 2004 and 2011.

The men were jailed for a total of 36 years. Akram was given 17 years for rape and trafficking for sexual exploitation. Bashir was jailed for 11 years for rape and attempted rape.

Ahmed was jailed for five years for sex assault and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. Ibrar was given three years for assault and trafficking for sexual exploitation.
