A petulant prince who never gave tragic Diana a chance

-

IN THE Mail’s serialisation of the new biography of the Prince of Wales, once again Prince Charles has been shown to be petulant and cruel. Why make another vile attack on his late wife, Princess Diana? Surely he should be above criticising the mother of his two sons. No matter what Diana supposedly did or did not do or say, Charles is able to defend himself. Sadly, Diana is not here to speak up for herself. Charles is of the generation where you were taught never to speak ill of the dead. After all, his former wife died tragically, a young mother. For him to admit now that he wanted to, and should have, called off the wedding is a disgrace. It appears he entered into the marriage even though he despised Diana and admitted this to his friends. How despicable — Diana never stood a chance. Yet he expected her to do her duty, which she duly did, producing an heir and a spare. No one can deny she adored her two boys. By stating he should never have married Diana, what message is Charles sending to William and Harry? Surely, because of them, he should be glad and embrace the fact that he wed Diana. But as we all know, it always has to be about him. Even though Charles has had a charmed life with the best of everything, he sees himself as the injured party. How childish to tell his friends that Diana ‘seemed incapable of grasping what he was saying about his daily routine’. For goodness’ sake, she was an impressionable 19-year-old expecting romance from her fiance, not a whining middle-aged man going on about his ‘routine’. Charles should celebrate reaching his 70th birthday without seeing it as an opportunity to once again attack Diana. Perhaps it would be worthwhile for him to ponder that if he had been man enough to call off the wedding, possibly Diana would still be alive, enjoying life to the full. This latest attack is disgraceful, disrespectful and not worthy of a future king. It shows him to be a bitter and resentful old man. How very sad and disappointing it must be for William and Harry and our honourable Queen.
