ALUN WYN: TIME TO END AUSSIE HOODOO

- By WILL KELLEHER

ALUN WYN JONES is out to break the Welsh curse against Australia, saying it is about time they turned the tide. Captain Jones has won twice against Australia for the Lions but only once for his country. The last win came in 2008 and since then Wales have lost 13 in a row. Jones was asked for the key to breaking that run in today’s match and gave a typically dead-pan reply. ‘Score more points,’ he said. ‘2008 was a long time ago! If you go looking too far back you can get lost searching for answers. I haven’t beaten them enough in the red of Wales. You know Australia are always going to attack from anywhere. They can spark up a moment of individual brilliance and they marry that with a decent pack. They always come and pose a threat. It’s key to shut down their momentum. ‘Especially against a team like Australia who have that counterattacking ability, you just don’t want to get in a hole against them early on.’ Australia skipper Michael Hooper knows the Principality Stadium is a happy hunting ground for the Wallabies. ‘We love playing at this stadium,’ he said. ‘We have got a really good rivalry with Wales.’
