Dyson bags a £58m New York apartment
BILLIONAIRE inventor Sir James Dyson has bought himself an early Christmas present – a £58million apartment in New York.
The plush six-bedroom home is in one of Manhattan’s most soughtafter buildings.
Sir James’s residence is one of 35 in the 64- storey limestone-clad tower.
Each features white oak floors, huge open- plan kitchens and marble bathrooms, with some having balconies with views over Central Park. Facilities in the building, which is still under construction, include a rooftop swimming pool, sauna, gym and private cinema. The tower is close to the luxury goods stores of Fifth Avenue, and a short hop from Dyson’s flagship New York outlet. Sir James, 71, who is worth an estimated £4.1billion, will join former Barclays boss Bob Diamond and Las Vegas casino owner Frank Fertitta III in the block.
His reported $73.8million purchase has smashed previous sales of £20.1million ($25.8million) for a 30th floor apartment and £18.7million ($24million) for one on the 24th floor.
Developer Arthur Zeckendorf told the New York Post: ‘It doesn’t get any better. We have more than exceeded our expectations.’
Sir James’s main home is Dodington Park, a 19th century manor house with 51 bedrooms in Gloucestershire, close to the Dyson headquarters in Malmesbury, Wiltshire.
With his wife, he also owns properties in London, Paris and a 3,000acre estate in Lincolnshire.
Sir James’s representatives refused to comment on the reported purchase in New York.
