Tesco Finest Cremant De Limoux Rose Sparkling, £9 (normally £11) FROM the vineyards of Languedoc in Southern France, this perky pink sparkler is made in the same way as champagne from Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc and Pinot Noir grapes, the latter giving it a perfect pinky hue.

Co-op Irresistible Gavi Broglia 2017, £7.99 ITALY’S Piedmont region is famous for its red Barolo wines but this northern pocket of Italy produces some great whites too. This crowd-pleasing Gavi has ripe pear and citrus fruit flavours.

Viñalba Reserve Malbec 2015, £9.99 mix six price, Majestic THIS medal-winning wine is ripe, rich and smooth. It’s a blackcurrant take on Argentina’s famous export with added oomph from ageing in French oak barrels for six months.

Waitrose Palo Cortado, £11.49 FROM an instant tipple for drop-ins to working with everything from nibbles to mince pies, Sherry is an unbelievably versatile drink. This one is made by Sherry giant Lustau and is deliciously aromatic with tangy, nutty flavours.
