Kitchen makeover company opens new doors for Jerry
FRANCHISING SETTING up a shop can be a risky business but former banker Jerry Innesbeer decided that getting into retail with a franchise was a safer way to go.
Jerry, 53, says: ‘After decades in retail and wholesale banking, I wanted a change of career, and opted for a retail franchise with kitchen makeover company Dream Doors.
‘My time in retail financial services was all about looking after customers — that’s what I am most comfortable doing.
‘I had some concerns about taking on a retail franchise showroom in this economic climate. However, having looked at Dream Doors’ franchise model, I had every confidence in what they were doing.’
Jerry now generates monthly sales averaging £50,000 at his Doncaster showroom.
He says: ‘I didn’t feel brave or skilled enough to start my own business from scratch, so going into a Dream Doors franchise was a good compromise. I get to be my own boss and still have head office to support me.’
Retail franchises typically offer members help with selecting promises, fit-out, and cost savings from bulk-buying stock.
Jerry advises others considering taking on a retail franchise: ‘It pays to remind yourself that it’s not a worrying time. Instead of thinking, ‘I’m going out on a limb’, see it as an opportunity.’
Dream Doors’ director of UK sales, Ed Brewer, says: ‘ We normally choose retail premises that are not necessarily on the High Street, but still have easy parking and good visibility. Generally, that means rents and rates are more affordable.’ Dream Doors’ management helps new franchisees to find and negotiate leases on showrooms, design and lay out the showrooms and to order stock.
‘We also help franchisees with the launch date, including press releases, showroom photos and a video for their dedicated web page. Don’t believe everything you read about the retail sector being all doom and gloom — Dream Doors is a success story.’
A Dream Doors franchise costs £35,000.
