Four weddings and a reunion

- By Alisha Rouse Showbusiness Correspondent

IT HAS been 24 years since Hugh Grant stood in the pouring rain and declared his love for his American sweetheart.

Now the cast of Four Weddings and a Funeral will be reunited for a special sequel for Red Nose Day.

Grant was 34 when he starred in the romantic comedy with Andie MacDowell, Kristin Scott Thomas and Rowan Atkinson, who will all appear in the one-off special.

The film’s writer Richard Curtis, who is co-founder of Comic Relief is bringing the cast together for the short film, called One Red Nose Day and a Wedding.

Mike Newell has returned to direct the instalment, which picks up 2 years after the original film and will feature a fifth wedding. Curtis said: ‘We’re all definitely older – I suspect no wiser.

‘It’s been really enjoyable working out what’s happened to all the characters and

now they get back together for the fifth wedding, where, as usual, not everything will go as planned.’

It follows the success of Red Nose Day Actually, a short sequel to Love Actually, which premiered on Red Nose Day in 2017.

Earlier this year, Curtis revealed that Grant nearly lost out on the role of Charles in Four Weddings and a Funeral.

Curtis admitted that he preferred Alan Rickman for the part but was outvoted by other film executives.

Curtis said: ‘We auditioned 70 people... I just thought Hugh was a bit annoying, too good looking, a bit posh. I was right about all of those things but he is also very good.’ One Red Nose Day and a Wedding will be shown on BBC1 on March 1 .
