Kirstie: Why I get the nanny to wrap my children’s Xmas presents
FrOM decorations to stockings and yule logs, she encourages fans of her TV show to hand- craft what they need for Christmas.
But it seems Kirstie Allsopp does not exactly practise what she preaches.
The presenter of Handmade Christmas has revealed she ‘delegates’ everything from wrapping her children’s presents to hanging wreaths.
Miss Allsopp, 47, admitted she gets her children’s nanny to wrap their presents as she ‘doesn’t have the time’ and has even employed a man to spray fake snow on the windows of her house. ‘I haven’t had time to do any wrapping for so long,’ she told The Times. ‘It’s such a shame because I really, really love it – sitting down in front of a Christmas movie and doing the wrapping is the best.
‘I used to do all these things but there’s just no time once you’ve had children. I will get back to them.’
The Channel 4 presenter’s staff include a personal assistant, a housekeeper and a groomer for her dog Dandy – as well as Heather, nanny to her children Bay, 12, and Oscar, ten.
Miss Allsopp, who revealed her family would be spending Christmas ‘somewhere hot and sunny abroad’ this year, said: ‘I’d never ask Heather to wrap adults’ presents, only children’s and godchildren’s.
‘I still feel I should be doing it myself but if failure to delegate means you’re going to disappoint someone, then you need to delegate.’
Dismissing criticism, she wrote on Twitter: ‘I have always believed female public figures who pretend they do it all are grotesquely letting down other working mums who don’t have any of the help they do, but when journalists use this against you, you do think “bloody hell, you’re in a lose lose situation”.’
she added: ‘when people write articles deriding your employment of people they are also mocking the jobs those people do. where do they draw the line?’
