No bidders for ‘Hitler’ paintings
WATERCOLOURS attributed to Adolf Hitler have failed to sell at auction in Germany – possibly because they could be fake.
No bids were received for the paintings which had starting prices of between £16,000 and £39,000.
Three days before Saturday’s auction in Nuremberg, prosecutors seized 63 other paintings attributed to the Nazi leader to probe claims they were fakes.
Last month, three other watercolours were seized by prosecutors in Berlin.
Hitler is thought to have painted 2,000 pictures while a struggling artist in Vienna before the First World War.
