Gender twist on Midwife

CALL The Midwife explored another complex social issue last night with a storyline about an ‘intersex’ patient.

Nurse T rixie Franklin, played by Helen George, pictured, and Dr P atrick Turner discovered that Lois, a young woman who was soon to be married, had male organs after she complained that something was not right. Lois tried to kill herself, but her fiance said he still wanted to be with her.

The BBC1 drama has previously tackled topics such as female genital mutilation and abortion.
