Driver who sped off with €1million
THE driver of an armoured security van drove off and disappeared yesterday – along with one million euros.
The 28-year-old had stopped his truck in front of a Western Union office in Aubervilliers just north of Paris at around 6am. He stayed in the van, supposedly waiting for his two colleagues – but when they came out, the vehicle was gone. It was later found with its doors wide open, but the driver and the euros – the equivalent of £880,000 – were nowhere to be seen.
An inquiry has been opened by France’s anti-gang squad.
The last such heist came in 2009, when driver Toni Musulin fled in his armoured van with at least €11.5million (about £10million at today’s rates) he had collected from a Bank of France building in Lyon. He was caught just over a week later.
