Fury’s £20m Wilder rematch
TYSON FURY is in the final stage of negotiations for a world heavyweight title rematch with Deontay Wilder in New York on May 18 that is set to net him £20million-plus. That is three times the extraordinary £7m donation he made to charity for the homeless after his epic first encounter with Wilder that ended in a draw. Fury referred to his charitable gesture at a speaking engagement in Cardiff at the weekend and few will begrudge him pocketing his next big pay-day to prevent what he described as ‘me probably ending up like all the old boxers — skint.’ Fury also revealed fears at the time that he might have been ‘brain damaged’ by the power of the blow which flattened him in the last round in Los Angeles in November, a brutal knock-down from which he miraculously regained consciousness to finish the fight.
