TIMELINE OF A TRAGEDY
SEPTEMBER 2014: Cervical smear test at Southmead Hospital comes back clear.
OCTOBER 2015: After months of irregular bleeding, Julie is referred by her GP to a senior gynaecologist. Cervical ectropion recorded. Womb biopsy taken which doesn’t identify any abnormalities.
NOVEMBER 2015: Referred back to hospital by GP as bleeding continues. Senior gynaecologist performs hysteroscopy; more biopsies taken. No abnormalities identified. Contraceptive treatment given.
AUGUST 2016: Referred back to hospital by GP. Appointment with consultant and trainee doctor. Presence of cervical ectropion and cysts recorded but ‘no suspicious features’ noted. Appointment made to cauterise cells causing bleeding.
NOVEMBER 2016: History and previous assessments noted. Existing medical plan not challenged. Procedure to cauterise (burn) cells with silver nitrate carried out.
FEBRUARY 2017: Referred back by GP after continued bleeding. Appointment with trainee doctor. Examination recorded as ‘normal’. Ectropion and cysts noted. Julie placed on waiting list for endometrial ablation (laser surgery).
MARCH 2017: Appointment at private hospital confirms Julie has advanced cervical cancer.
APRIL 2017: Julie begins chemotherapy and radiotherapy at private hospital.
FEBRUARY 2019: Three days before her death at 49, Julie records a haunting video.
