RED ARROWS
United flying but Sarri’s on the floor
MAURIZIO sARRI was clinging to his job last night after Chelsea crashed out of the FA Cup and fans turned on their beleaguered boss.
the Blues were blitzed by Manchester United, who booked their quarter-final slot with goals from Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba.
During the 2-0 defeat at stamford Bridge, home supporters chanted ‘F*** sarri-ball’, ‘You don’t know
what you’re doing’ and ‘You’re getting sacked in the morning’ as tempers flared. But the Italian insisted: ‘I am worried about the results, not about the fans. ‘I can understand the situation and our fans, because the result wasn’t really good. ‘We are out of the FA Cup, so I can understand our fans. But I am worried at the moment about our results.’ The tame performance pushed Sarri closer to the sack. But the under-fire boss claims he is not worried about being fired and says his relationship with the players is fine. He said: ‘It’s not my problem. My problem is to start (preparing for) the next game and to work with my players to try to improve in a few days, and find more determination, more aggression. ‘Am I worried about my job? No. I was really very worried when I was in league two in Italy. Not now. ‘The players do not completely grasp my style of play at the moment. But I think the players are with me. Of course I am not sure, but I think so. ‘I think the situation with the players is really very good for the relationship, but the relationship is not so important. It’s important to play, it’s important to get good results, but my relationship with my players is good at the moment.’ In contrast, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (above) strengthened his claim to become full-time United manager after seeing his side hit back following the defeat by Paris Saint-Germain. ‘It’s massive, of course, to bounce back. You want to see a reaction and the players have been brilliant in training,’ he said. ‘There’s a balance between being too eager after losing a game, so today was brilliant.’
